When all is said and done, I don't think there will likely be one predominant "root cause" for these incidents. There's always some driver error, Toyota has already admitted 2 mechanical faults, and I'd be surprised if there weren't many ways in which the drive-by-wire system could malfunction. Any time you ship millions of computers, it's expected that some of them will fail in unpredictable ways. My Honda's ECM goes nuts once in a while, I'm glad it doesn't have full control of the throttle.

Why hasn't Toyota released any EDR data ? I would think that data (although not all data is 100% perfect) would be very helpful and interesting for the public to see.

@Boasandpythons Infact my most UNRELIABLE vehicle that I've ever owned was a 2004 Toyota Tacoma. I still loved that truck, but at 30K, the motor decided to take a dump. Probably 100% random, but still a valid point.

Why is it, when Chevy, or Chrysler, or anybody but Toyota issues a recall, Toyota people bash on them, yet when Toyota releases a recall *4 years after they KNEW about the issue* Toyota people scream sabotage? Not trying to bash Toyota, I've owned a few my self. But before Toyota fan boys can bash anything else, I'll let you know that I own an 89 Cherokee with out a single issue and a 2001 Dodge Intrepid with 150k and without a single issue.

Why would they not use the DENSO on all of their cars/trucks? I mean, half the electrics in my 88 4runner are DENSO and have yet to fail. And its the same in my moms 01 Sequoia and my dads 06 Accord.

@carquestions EDR data is only one component of the total information picture. And keep in mind that EDR's were invented and designed to minimize manufacturer liability. EDR's are given way more weight than merited, almost like DNA "evidence".

@PsychoMp3 this is because the jealous domestic manufacturers in the us are losing sales terribly due to shit quality so they have to sabotage toyota and pay the media to destroy toyotas reputation. The sad part is, people are falling for it, YOU PEOPLE MAKE ME SICK.(not you psychomp3)

What do U.S. say in their recent report ?
The metal plate is to shield the hall effect sensor from electromagnetic interference. Electronic problem. Magnetic pulse from cell phone or road sensor will cause full throttle effect.

History will say this is the biggest auto myth ever - there is no doubt in my mind this "sticky pedal" is nothing more than human error. All the Toyotas in question have EDR's - that record if the brakes were on, how fast you were driving and how much you were pushing on the gas pedal - Show me the EDR data from a complainant and you'll find human error 10 times out of 10

I understand the wrong pedal argument, and I think it applies in certain of the reported cases, but I have personally confirmed the floor mat interference issue (recall #1) and I have studied the design of the pedal in question in recall #2, and I think that's real, too. Rare, but real.

why is it only Toyotas in the USA are affected while all other cars made here in Asia are unaffected by such recall. I find this amusingly weird.

Different pedal supplier, plain and simple. Each design is different, internally, as evidenced by the external differences you can see in the photos.
