Just as a suggestion
to any reader who may
be interested, there
is a John Wayne
movie produced
in 1976 called
THE SHOOTIST in
which there are
several other old
movie stars such as
James Stewart and also
several others such as
John Carradine, Lauren
Bacall, etc. and they
all played their parts
as though it was
intentional labor
to "pay for sins"
in the Christian
sense. It is a
remarkable movie
in that there is
not anything in it
that smacks of the
usual Hollywood "formula"
but was real paying for
sins of those movie
actors. There can
be felt a genuine
sense and feeling
of the Archangel
Gabriel all through
that movie, quite genuine,
quite real, for it is the
same sensation, taste and
feeling from my own experience
of near-death states of
consciousness. That
movie was John Wayne's
last and, in fact and in
real life, he was suffering
from cancer similar to the
character John Bernard
Books in that movie.
So, it can be said
that the movie was
really about John
Wayne.

It is interesting to note that
in the beginning pages of the
first Chapter of Beelzebub's
Tales, the arousing of thought,
Gurdjieff frankly confessed: "I
myself have not the slightest
wish to write, but am
constrained to do so by
circumstances quite
independent of me,
though whether these
circumstances arose
accidentally or were
created intentionally
by extraneous forces I
do not yet know. I only
know that these circumstances
bid me write not just some
trifle for reading oneself
to sleep, but thick and
weighty tomes."

The extraneous circumstances that
emerged independent of Gurdjieff
were such that he did not know,
at the time of his writing of the
first chapter of the FIRST SERIES
"whether these circumstances arose
accidentally or were created
intentionally" by outside
forces.

In connection with Gurdjieff, I
am referring to what was called
by his lineage of near followers,
including those whom he called "in
no wise hysterical Ladies," as
"merely a motor accident."

Gurdjieff was aggravated to no
end by his near followers who
pretended to know all about
the "accident" even so far
as to impose themselves on
him in terms of ordinary
understanding of medical
knowledge. Gurdjieff responded
to this with immoderate quantities
of alcohol. So grave was the
situation at the time
Gurdjieff began writing
the THIRD SERIES as stated
on page 6 that "due to all
kinds of accumulated
consequences of my
past life, it so
happens that just
now my time depends
not upon me but
exclusively upon
the 'self-willed'
Archangel Gabriel.
And indeed there
remains to me but
one or two or perhaps,
at the most, three years
more of life."

This describes precisely the
situation personal to myself
as a consequence of a near-
death event that happened in
1996. That this is in connection
with my own unique and personal
chief feature is without doubt.
This last near-death event,
unlike the others before it,
although it too involved yet
another female at least
indirectly if not directly,
awakened me for the first
time to a direct conscious
awareness of that "something"
usually accumulating in the
common life of people, what
Gurdjieff said was first
noticed by the Great
King of Judea, Solomon,
as "Tzvarnoharno."

Seeing Tzvarnoharno directly and
not allowing any compromises take
place whatsoever between the separate
parts of my being which, at the time,
were brought together into a new
relationship by way of new inner
formations, this irrupted from
within me archetypal in the form
of a dark mass of material in the
shape of a spidery creature with
many arms outstretched in all
directions principally from
the "solar plexus."

I was able to endure this
transformative change by passing
through intense feelings of fear,
fear of death and intense feelings
of physical pain associated with
constrictions indicating
resistance. I was able to
do this by holding myself
steady and sitting with
everything that was
happening and not
reacting in any
psychological
or, for that matter,
pathological way to
this fear and then
outlasting it because
the manifestation of fear
associated with fantasy and
imagination is impermanent,
therefore not real, therefore
not ALL, and is therefore
NOTHING.
