Romeo & Juliet played by the Budapest Symphony. Winners Concert from the IV International Conducting Competition 1983, Christoph von Dohnányi and Janos Ferencsik jury chairmen. The top 3 prize winners each selected a short piece to perform at the awards ceremony on television. There was a single rehearsal that morning. I chose the Tchaikovsky, it was a piece I had studied in school but never conducted. There were 64 conductors from 17 countries. At 23, I was the youngest conductor in the competition and won first prize.
