My cat having an epileptic fit or seizure. THERE IS NO STROBE LIGHT, I HAPPENED TO BE HOLDING A CAMEMA AT THE TIME, PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE POSTING HORRIBLE MESSAGES.

This is not intended to offend or to amuse, simply to be informative. Many cats do this as they get older. What you should do is let them get on with it and make sure they will not bash into anything or fall off into anything. They will dribble from their mouths and if their bladder is full, they will empty it. Turn the lights down and reassure the animal afterwards, as they are often temporarily blind or light sensitive, confused and scared. 10 minutes later this cat was fine as if nothing had happened. So now you know what they look like in case your cat ever does this! The video camera was a tiny pocket cam which had trouble auto adjusting in low light. I was about to film her going out in the snow but she turned back from the snow glare at the front door and did this instead. It seems like there is a strobe light in the video but in reality it was constant low electric light and the strobe effect was added by the camera's poor auto adjustment. There was no strobe effect in real life, honest!

  • so what did the vet say and what did u do for her? My cat had a seizure last night and it scared the crap out of both of us

  • @jmolag Ensure there is nothing nearby by the cat can strike during the event and hurt itself. Things like sharp edges or near the top of stairs. Darken the lights (the strobe effect in the video is my rubbish camera failing at auto light balance, it wasn't really happening!). Crucially, when finished the vet said the animal is most likely temporarily blind and very frightened. A familiar voice and touch will calm the poor beastie.

  • Thank you my cat has been having seizures for awhile and wasn't sure what it was. What are u doing for her is there anythng u can give her over the counter? Thanks

  • @treefree50 Hello, My cat had an overactive Thyroid which there are 3 treatments for; Surgery to reduce the size, radiation to reduce the function, pills to keep it in check. I opted for a pill a day wrapped in tuna, the sensible choice to me. I don't think it was related to seizures, my vet indicated it was common in older cats.

  • @treefree50 Arent you supposed to grab them and hold their head? so they dont smack it? I have 3 cats myself and would like to know, just in case one of mine have a seizure

  • @Silvawolf100 The way I understand it is there is nothing you can do to stop the event. Ensure there is nothing nearby the cat can strike during the event or fall off and hurt itself. Darken the lights (the strobe effect in the video is my rubbish camera failing at auto light balance, it wasn't really happening!). Crucially, when finished the vet said the animal is most likely temporarily blind and very frightened. A familiar voice and touch will calm the poor beastie.
