This is a video of four P-47 Thunderbolts taxiing at the 2005 Planes of Fame Airshow at Chino, California. Now this is what I call ROLLING AMERICAN THUNDER! This airshow featured FIVE Thunderbolts taking to the air. The fifth Thunderbolt (the Planes of Fame's own P-47G) is visible parked on the left at the end of the video. Steve Hinton flew the P-47G in an aerobatic display and also filled in between the other flying sequences, so this P-47 is not shown taxiing in the video. Actually, SEVEN flyable Thunderbolts were present at Chino that day. The sixth and seventh Jugs were the Yanks Air Museum's (also based at Chino) YP-47M and P-47D. However, the Yank's P-47s did not fly.

This was one of the very first videos I took with my first video camera, a tiny Sony, so please take it easy on me :). The flying sequences didn't turn out so well so I didn't include them but I felt that the sight of these four monsters taxiing should be presented for others to enjoy! This was truly a sight to behold.

If you'd like, please also check out my other YouTube warbird videos.

Thanks!

  • 5 people couldn't see the like button because they were blinded by the SHEER AWESOME of the Thunderbolt.

  • @Halomaster261 If I flew during the war I would have wanted to be a P-47 pilot.

  • Great as the P-47 was, the plane was not a success initially as a fighter. It wasn't until more fuel capacity was added, switching to the "bubble" canopy for better visibility, and _especially_ the switch to the better "paddle" propellers that the P-47 finally became a formidable fighter. Indeed, with the new "paddle" propellers, the P-47 could out-climb the Bf 109 with ease.

  • That's my girl, All American

  • 78th Fg, best paint choice ever. Makes them birds look beautiful, however I also like the 56th White.

  • Best ground attack plane of the war. They were a panzers worst nightmare.

  • I knew a guy who flew these in WWII on ground attack in Burma. Jack Atkinson.

I'm just proud to say I knew him.

  • 5 people are former German Luftwaffe that got shot down by P-47s

  • @Halomaster261 You bet! More confirmed kills, A fighter bomber like none other and with the addition of external tanks they could escort bombers as good or better than the P-51.. Truly an underrated but not unappreciated aircraft. Ask any of the boys who could count on the P-47 for great ground support.
