Jimmy and Susie have both enrolled in programs at the University of Washington. Way to go you budding scholars!

Jimmy and Susie both work a lot so they are taking evening classes, Susie also signed up for some online courses.
Classes have started and all is going well, until their instructor tells them they must write a research paper using library resources!
Geez whiz I haven't used a library since Mrs. Johnson's 10th grade class!

Don't get your bobby socks in a twist kids, because you are going to learn... How To Use The Library! You can use the library in the evening or on weekends, and from the comfort of your own home. Whatever fits your lifestyle!

That's swell!
Boy it sure is!

It's fat city! Let's stroll over to the Odegaard Undergraduate Library to see what's shaken'.

When you come to the library you can check out books, movies, music, and more. Just be sure to bring your Husky Card. You can load it up with change and print out your assignments from the library. No, no, no, Jimmy, the printer is over there.
There are also many quiet places to study or work on projects with your friends. If you're a night owl, you can grab a late night cup o'jo at the By George Cafe. Don't have your own hot rod? You can get a ride home with Night Ride. If Odegaard isn't your bag, there other libraries on campus that are open late too. To see a complete list of library hours check out the Libraries homepage.

Well golly, what if I can't come to the library to use all this stuff?

Not a problem! You can access many nifty library resources online, all of which can be found by starting on the Libraries' homepage: the front door to online resources! You can request print copies of books through Summit or Interlibrary Loan.

But I can't carry all of those books to class!

Don't you worry Susie, the libraries have quite a collection of eBooks that you can read in your pajamas or on the go.

If you need information from a journal or newspaper, take a gander at the Libraries databases. They'll provide you with a digital collection of articles on just about everything you'd ever need.

And if you're writing a paper, check out online citation tools like RefWorks or EndNote. They'll help you ace those tricky citations.

But I don't know how to use any of this stuff!

Cool it Jim, that's what a librarian is for. You can visit the library in person. You can chat with a librarian online. You can even text them from your mobile phone. You can sit back and watch some spiffy videos that will show you how to use library resources. These can be found on the Libraries "How Do I...?" page.

Jeepers mister, I had no idea you could do all that!

With all of these resources I am going to be made in the shade!

Glad to help kids, and now you know... How To Use The Library!
