@boosra I prefer the term 'debate', even if the line between them does get very thin at times :P. Thanks for the exchange though, youtube naval videos do seem tragically short of people who actually know very much about navies so it's nice to come across one every now and again.

@boosra That's me done too :p. A few posts one way require a few posts back, think we've filled up two whole pages between us.
For what it's worth, I agree that it's ridiculous for some to be saying on here 'RN is the most powerful navy in the world!', I consider that to be pride overwhelming both knowledge and logic, but I also think the flip side to be just as ridiculous when some, not you in this case, come and moan/gloat about how the RN is now nothing more than a coast guard.

@boosra Well consider that the UK has already built a new generation of ships in the Type 45, and is currently engaged in building new generation aircraft carriers and submarines. The UK isn't sitting idly back while others crack on with shipbuilding, right now what will be some of the most capable vessels of their type are being built at shipyards across the UK and once done, Type 26s and Type 27s(?) will immediately start taking their places. Ark Royal and Type 22s or no, the RN is still here.

@boosra The Turkish Navy has a bright looking future assuming current projects can go to plan, although let's not get too far ahead of ourselves and raise it above its capability to deliver a force rivalling the major navies of Western Europe. It's made a step in the right direction with the modernisation of the G class frigates with the GENESIS combat mangement system and, for four of them, ESSM, but it has a long way to go yet until possible 2018-2020 acquisition of the TF-2000 AAW frigates.

@boosra Germany and the Netherlands have excellent navies, even if both are facing unfortunate budget constraints (I saw a horrific article in 'De Telegraaf' referring to cuts for the Dutch Navy of the entire submarine force, two of the four Holland class OPVs, and retiring of the remaining M class frigates without replacement - I genuinely hope that's media sensationalism from what is apparantly a very poor newspaper for military matters). As noted though, they're medium-sized regional fleets.

@boosra Italian Navy. Only one carrier really, Cavour is currently a secondary carrier to Gariboldi and only actually acts as one when Gariboldi is unavailable, otherwise she performs as an amphibious assault vessel and task force flagship. Once Gariboldi is retired, then Cavour will take over as the primary carrier.
Spain are the same, Juan Carlos is subordinate to Asturias. And yes, while the F100s are admirable multi-role ships their AAW is found lacking to that of Type 45/Horizon/DZP/F124.

@boosra Also just a tidbit on France's amphibious forces, current plans are for the two Foudre class LPDs to be replaced by Mistrals 3 and 4, France has already tried to off-load Foudre herself to Argentina.
So a realistic major surface force structure for France for 2022 would be four AAW vessels (2 x Horizon, 2 x FREDA), nine ASW/GP frigates (split between the remaining FREMMS, most will be the ASW variant), four Mistral LHDs and either one or two carriers. In all honesty, most likely one.

@boosra Marine Nationale. If you're going to give France until 2022 to get all of its FREMMs into service, then also factor in that by then Queen Elizabeth will be in service and Prince of Wales, under current plans, likely fitting out for ER. By then the first Type 26 should have been delievered and work on the C2 aspect of FSC, a medium-sized patrol frigate that the RN so badly needs, much more so than a new ASW vessel many would argue, should be well underway. Don't forget the Astutes either.
