i had a 289 with same noise, ended up being a wrist pin. ventilated the block

Ventilated the block? Did it ruin the cylinder walls? Which cylinder was it on your 289?

I was wondering if i could get your opinion, i have a 352 in my 65 f100, and every time i start it it makes a grinding sound. I give it a couple good revs and it seams to die down and sometimes go away. It also comes back if i stop at a stop sign or light. I was told it could be my starter gear not recessing all the way and hitting my flywheel? But i think it is my tranny(cruise o matic)??? Any suggestions???

@philldholes Have you tried to Install a backflow preventor valve I put one on a cj7 I had many yrs ago and it worked out great or add an electric fuel pump there cheap and easy to Install ! Good luck !
