I've asked on a few videos but does anyone know the story with mace drill? I've seen there's the way the drum major carries it on this video where he touches the ferrule to the floor and then brings it out, then there's one that's like a carry. Does anyone know when the different ways are used, if there's a specific time or if it's just at the drum majors discretion? Thanks =D
the" captain general" march was written by sir vivian Dunn in 1949 on the occasion of king George the sixth ,who was then the captain general of the royal marines ,dining with the officers of the corps at the savoy in london. m@rty
To clarify this is the Irish Guards marching on to the first rehersal for Troping the Colour, known as the Major Generals Review, as, the salute is taken by the Major General of the Household Division.
The Drum Major is doing the Quick Time version of the State Walk which is quite a common sight within british military bands. During 'The Troop' the Drum Majors do a slow time version which is done of 6 paces instead of 4 paces in quick march. The state walk is always done with the right hand.
No mate, the State Walk is part of the Trooping proper, played to Les Hugenots, this is just a band on the way to Horse Guards to form part of the Massed Bands.. Still, it's strange to see the Drum Major using the mace in his right hand.

Unusual that the Drum Major is carrying his mace in his right hand.
