So that there is no question in the mind of the listener, I rely principally on images of the LP and LP jacket in order to document the authenticity of historically important recordings such as these.

In this 1966 recording, Isaac Stern (1920-2001), Eugene Istomin (1925-2003) and Leonard Rose (1918-1984) perform the frist movement of Beethoven's Piano Trio in B flat major, Op. 97, the "Archduke." I created this video from the LP, "The Istomin/Stern/Rose Trio Plays Beethoven's Archduke Trio," issued on the Columbia label, serial number ML 6219. Program notes by Paul Affelder; cover photo by Don Hunstein. All images in this video were taken from the LP jacket and label.

Movement 1: Allegro moderato

Movement 2 - Scherzo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAxvnujzNPQ

I recommend this recording of the Brahms double concerto in A minor, Op. 102, with Isaac Stern and Leonard Rose (1956 performance, Bruno Walter): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vREWf7nxSM

If you enjoy Isaac Stern's early performances, you may be interested in this 1952 recording (Stern was 32 years old) of the third movement of the Brahms violin concerto, with Sir Thomas Beecham conducting:

And from 1949, the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 35 - Finale: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQlbfd2LWvs
--------------------------------------------------------
You can enjoy more works for small instrumental ensembles -- featuring Jacqueline du Pré, Osian Ellis, Isaac Stern, Eugene Istomin, Leonard Rose, David Oistrakh, Lev Oborin, Ruggiero Ricci, Ernesto Bitetti, Francis Tursi, José Echániz, Frank Pelleg and others, performing works of Bach, Grieg, Hindemith, Beethoven, Saint-Saens, and Mendelssohn here: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=868FFE8EF7B97CF7

  • @SMSHCT55 This is crude playing compared to the Heifetz/Rubinstein/Feuermann which is seriously outclassed by Thibaud/Cortot/Casals. The Heifetz et. al. is on YT. The 1st mvt of the Thibaud et. al. version is also on YT.

  • excellent record. Thank you.
