This video sees me pitching the Hyperlite Mountain Gear Echo I Shelter System, a tarp which can be equipped with beaks and a inner, making it a 4-Season shelter.

  • no thanx

stick with my 3 lb 2 oz little tent..

goes up in less than a minute

keeps me safe in the wind..

  • @chena3 3 lb 3 oz? No thanks. Keeps you safe in the wind? Right. This one does to, at a fraction of the weight, and setting it up quickly is no problem either. Add in that it is modular and it beats your heavy tent.

  • Hey, forgot to mention in previous comments, I'd love to see a review of your glove shoe things! hahah,

    ~Charlie

  • @eatsleepbike Thanks mate! It is a fine shelter, and the Vibram Five Finger KSO are awesome. A review of them is up on my blog Hiking in Finland!

  • I love your laid back attitude - "sit back and relax.." The video is very informative and is useful for tips on how to set up not only the HMG Echo but similar catenary (curved) tarps. Thank you so much for taking the time to make and share this on YouTube!

BTW - I loved the BUZZ of a small flying insect going by the video microphone at 8:19 or so - very funny :-)

  • @bfjgreen Thanks Brian! Yeah, that insect buzz also makes me chuckle =)

  • @Habichtshorst cool, i'll check it out

  • Nice shoes man I have the same five fingers! Before you installed the inner part of the shelter I wouldn't have considered it. While its three pounds less then the tent I am looking at it's another $300.00 it looks a bit to rich for my blood.

  • That really is an excellent design. Good demonstration of a very impressive system. Thank you.

  • @RedwoodOutdoors The problem with Tarptents (I had a Scarp 1 which needed much longer to set up) is the condensation, at least for me. I never yet had condensation under a tarp, but it was fairly common in the Scarp 1.
