Crazy New Year's Eve fireworks on the island of Aruba. This was filmed from our 6th floor room at the Renaissance hotel in Oranjestad. We were told that the average family spends $250 on fireworks for the New Year's celebration. I wouldn't doubt that figure, because it seemed that that from 11:30pm on, every man, woman and child on the island was setting off fireworks. The scene reminded me of the video footage from the early hours of Gulf War 1, where anti aircraft fire lit up the skies of Bagdad. In my Aruba video, if you turn up the volume, you can hear how deafening the fireworks were. You can also see tiny specs off in the distance which are small scale fireworks marking the entire coastline of the Eastern half of Aruba!

  • I love Aruba's New Years. It's like there's a firework show on the whole island.

You should have seen the amount of fireworks 10 years ago. There used to be a lot more, believe it or not. It used to start around 10 pm then escalates insanely by midnight and goes on till 2 am.

Now, even though prices are sky high, families manage to buy atleast some things that make your ears bleed, a "pagara" (a def. must) and one or two sky-rockets for midnight, just to keep the island glowing and insane.

  • Proud To Be Arubian

  • @passmen3001 Thanks, I don't know where would be the best place to see the fire works. On the beach or at a balcony at a hotel! We'll figure it out, can't wait!
