NAXOS recording session April 2009. Irina Kulikova, Winner of the 2008 Alessandria Pittaluga Competition. Antonio Jose Sonata 4th movement. Produced by Norbert Kraft in Toronto.
@theviciousguitar I'm talking about musical intelligence, not technique. Bream's technique isn't a patch on most of the modern crop of classical guitarists but his feeling for phrasing, dynamics and colour are second to none. For me, Kulikova is the young guitarist who comes closest to challenging Bream's supremacy in this field. And, of course, she's got a phenominal technique. She's an absolutely outstanding musician.
@douglas12386 I doubt Bream would have the capacity to play such a technically demanding piece, especially in the right hand. Bream is undoubtedly a phenomenal player, but his right hand technique often failed him because of his awkward position similar to Segovia's. These flaws in technique can be seen in some pieces Bream has performed that contain fast arpeggios and left hand movements.
i've seen this piece ruined so often, thank you for the music!

There's a musical intelligence here that makes me think of Bream.
