Eugene Ysaye composed his 6 violin sonatas in 1924 in the honour of J. S. Bach and after his wife's death and dedicated to his contemporaries. The first was dedicated to a Hungarian violinist, Joseph Szigeti and now performed by a major Hungarian talent, Kristof Barati. Paris, 2002.

  • wonderful playing and a beautifuly made video (love the paintings)

  • Great talent. However, he doesn't observe a lot of the dynamics and other of Ysaye's markings. An enjoyable performance nonetheless.

  • The room he's in dampens the sound. To me this is obvious. Lovely performance of the music!

  • Playing Ernst and Ysaye in this dry accoustic is like taking part in a beauty contest completely naked and without any makeup

  • The accoustic is so dry, maybe it influenced his choice of tempi? I think this version is awsome, and I am curious to hear the version of people criticizing it :)

  • I think he plays it very well, but there are a couple of things I'm not sure about. Why does he hold the 16th note at 3:33 so long, and the 8th note at 3:40? There's no fermata over either note, so why does he hold them so long? That's bordering rhythmically incorrect, I think, at least assuming my edition is correct in how those notes are written.

  • @sababa123 I agree with you. If you see the tempo marking is molto moderato and quarter equals 58. There's a reason and that is the main theme should be highlighted at all times. None the less, he performs it convincingly.

  • What a sound, what a tone quality, and that tenths!!! oooh, very very good!

  • really?...how?.......

    ....how?

  • Good playing, but it seems to me that as diverse as Ysaye's composition skills were, that you can hear as he repeats certain themes from one of his melodies in others. It's kind of like a trademark where you know almost immediately that it was Ysaye who was the composer.

  • Great performance, look up Oscar Shumsky's performance this... it will shatter your reality

  • BRAVO
