Here's a bad Babelfish translation:

Rerecording to John Cleese in the studio; "Like it with princess Mitzi, you continue to go will see alike. But now first times to swimming and Arthur Lustgarten."

Text insertion: Swimming class with Arthur Lustgarten. 27. Lesson: How do I arrive in the basin?
Now one sees Arthur (Michael Palin) very fearful on a meter board: "Hello! Tja... Hello, greets it! Hello, thus. In the last lessons we learned, how one goes to swimming, if one wants a swimming. As one writes a "swimming". As one selects the swimming pool. As one the road vorm swimming pool crosses. As one the entrance pays. As one clean-comes to pay without, if the entrance is free. As one undresses and tightens the trunk first. As one undresses and tightens the trunk in the end. As one delivers its dresses. As near one can to the water, without clean-being assigned. And where one its towel leaves. Thus... this time we learn... as one in the water go, without drowning. Äh, how one swims! Remember they above all: , If one does not swim, the poor life insurances never clean-go! But if one can swim... is that naturally all the same. Too all only... they must check whether they are well near to enough at the basin and examine then, whether enough water in it is, before they sink, swim... äh swims. So preparatory... äh... we are finished to the Ersaufen - äh, for swimming!"
It shows diverting over here; "Oh, which is there loosely?"
The camera swivels there, it is however nothing to be seen. It is swivelled back, the board is now empty and one sees, how behind it two aides pull the fearful Arthur, who wanted to probably flee straight, back.
Thus the surprised Arthur continues naturally professionally; "Oh, there are them! Thus, on ' S. goes"
It puts on the ground, taps with the hand briefly in the water and frightens up; "Ha! Naja, not at all so heavily, which? Next time: The dress return by the lifeguard."

Again with Cleese in the studio; "We dazzle ourselves now into the fairy tale."

So here are the German German episodes:

Episode 1 is the same minus two things: the burnt-in subtitles (trying to rip these to srt) and the Bavarian Restaurant Sketch.

#2: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=OHP1NIUC
Episode 2 is more interesting, this is a German dub (not done by the team themselves) but it is also edited differently, a few shots shorter, a few shots longer, a few things moved around a bit. Extra scenes are a cigarette commercial (a 10 second sketch originally from the Frost Report) and swimming lessons.

Details of the differences - in German but with plenty of pictures: http://www.schnittberichte.com/schnittbericht.php?ID=744979

  • @themontypythonmuseum Thanks! I wonder if there's more still from the series that was cut but will see the light of day like the Wee Wee sketch. It's a shame they still leave all the same stuff out of the DVDs everytime, like the Choreographed Political Broadcast.) I had to track down a VHS of episode 38 (A Book at Bedtime) to see the comedy previews bit at the very end which isn't on the dvds. I'm sure other people would pay money to see that too.

  • @raindelayshowfan1 For subtitles, check the version I just uploaded.

  • This is excellent! And solved a 20 year old mystery for me. In Kim "Howard" Johnson's "The First 200 Years Of Monty Python", there's a scene by scene breakdown of the second German show. It baffled me as it mentioned sketches I'd never seen - now I understand that it was this German version!

The DVD box set that we're surely going to get will be full of these things, won't it? Won't it?

  • No subtitles?
