Here we have some exceptionally bad packaging of piri piri from the Portuguese company Macarico.

I have received a letter from Antonio Riberico Macarico, the president of Macarico SA about this film. He claims that it contains a veiled threat and that the matter is 'indutiably a crime'.

The packaging is the same used in all their products, according to him, and not once has their ever been a complaint about it. He states that I should have contacted them first (I did but their complaint form does not work - I suggest other people try their complaint form at www.macarico.com - maybe it is just me).

Macarico also points out that I did not show the jar before it was opened.

Macarico threatens me that if the film is not immediately removed then he will take legal and criminal action against me.

(I think that is what he is saying anyway as I have some difficulty in understanding the text of the letter.)

My channel on you tube : http://www.youtube.com/alanheath is one of the most prolific from Poland. I have produced around 2,000 original films, most in English. My big interest in life is travel and history but I have also placed films on other subjects.

Please feel free to ask questions in the public area or to comment on things you disagree with. Sometimes there are mistakes because I speak without preparation. If I see the mistakes myself, I make this clear in the text. Please also leave a star rating!

There are a number of films here on the packaging industry. This is because I am the publisher of Central and Eastern European Packaging -- http://www.ceepackaging.com - the international platform for the packaging industry in this region focusing on the latest innovations, trends, design, branding, legislation and environmental issues with in-depth profiles of major industry achievers.

Most people may think packaging pretty boring but it possibly effects your life more than you really imagine!

Central and Eastern European Packaging examines the packaging industry throughout this region, but in particular in the largest regional economies which are Russia, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Ukraine and Austria. That is not to say that the other countries are forgotten, they are not, but obviously there is less going on. However the fact that there are so many travel related films here is not from holidays but from business trips attending trade fairs around the region. Every packaging trade fair is a new excuse to make another film!

  • With this type of jar I normally use a screwdriver, placing the blade between glass and lid, and then I twist the driver slightly till I hear a pop.

  • @5micky2 Unfortunately I did not have a screwdriver to hand. What I did have was a knife but I failed to open it that way.

  • Yup, I experienced that as well, but with Ukrainian products. I am fond of carrot juice and it comes in those big glass jars that have exactly the same packaging. What I found works the best is that you take a bottle opener and just lift the edges like you would with beer bottle and then try to open it. It always works. I think it has smith to do with the way it was designed because it's a pretty common problem.

  • @FotoKadr Unfortunately I did not have a bottle opener to hand as I don't drink beer so I don't really need one. I tried a knife under the cap without success.

  • There is now a lid available where this problem is not occurring anymore!

  • @freeneles There are a number of solutions so that this problem does not occur!

  • @TrueCourse Thank you! I tried that too! Normally I try hitting the top first though! Even after breaking it open I still could not remove the lid!

  • Have you tried tapping (not too hard) the angled edges of the lid in quarters using a butter knife handle (or an equivalent), leaving slight dents. This should compromise the vacuum seal a bit and thus ease the opening of the lid. Hope this helps next time :)

  • @10CPhil Having said that a retailer - and particularly a chemist - is no longer able to sell a product once the closure has been tampered with. They need to be returned to the manufacturer.

  • @duessel135 Yes I did try that too. Normally once the vacuum is broken then the lid can be removed. Once I was unable to do that I punctured the lid but that did not work either.
