Union - Mainstreet USA

Issued 1981 on Portrait 7-02149.

When Randy Bachman exited BTO, he formed Ironhorse, and had two albums in 1979 and 1980. The commercial failure of these albums led to personnel changes including the return of C. Fred Turner back to the fold, and the group continued as Union. They made one album for Portrait that failed to find an audience outside of hardcore fans, and the group folded. Here's their representative single. It starts out as a straightforward Bachman affair, and then at 2:37 it becomes a BTO record! You have to admire it for the massive guitar sound. Nobody does that crunch better than Randy.

Haven't heard this since Steve Wright played on Radio 1 back in 1981.

When this album first came out a local FM radio station played the whole thing non stop. I was able to record it on cassette and about wore it out. Have looked for it on vinyl and it's unbelievable how few people have heard of it. Thank goodness for U-TUBE
