Tinkle that up ... not so much!

Sam brings you along to his rehearsal of his appearance to open the BOK Center in Tulsa, a brand new 20,000 seat convention and concert venue. A multi-faith inspirational concert with Sam as lead singer, The New Dimensions Chorale and a 400+ person choir. Sam works with Rick Fortner for the arrangements, and a vlog person even shows up! Go behind the scenes of what goes into a one night appearance for a Sam show. He takes a simple song of "This Little Light Of Mine" and rewrites it to go along with "Bridge Over Troubled Water".

-------------------

The poem is from the play,
IN THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE
by William Saroyan:

In the time of your life, live - so that in that good time there shall be no ugliness for yourself or for any life that your life touches.

Seek goodness everywhere and when it is found, bring it out of its hiding place and let it be free and unashamed.

Encourage virtue in whatever heart it may have been driven into secrecy and sorrow by the shame and terror of the world.

Ignore the obvious, for it is unworthy of the clear eye and the kindly heart.

Have no fear in being kindly and gentle.

In the time of your life, live - so that in that wondrous time you shall not add to the misery and sorrow of the world, but shall smile to the infinite delight and mystery of it.

BOK Center opens with a multifaith blessing

Music rocked the BOK Center downtown Sunday afternoon as thousands gathered for a multifaith celebration and blessing of the new building.

Fired by a 450-voice choir from about 85 houses of worship, the crowd often rose to its feet in applause and joined in the singing.

Recording artist Sam Harris, a native of the Tulsa area, said he was thrilled to be at the celebration, which was part of the grand opening for the arena.

"What a blessing it is to be in this place," he said while catching his breath after belting out, "Change Is on the Way," from his album "Free."

Harris was backed by the New Dimensions Chorale.

He asked the audience to join him in an old favorite children's worship song with the lyrics: "This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine."

He urged the audience to "seek goodness everywhere, and wherever it is found, let it be free and unashamed."

Master of ceremonies John Erling quipped: "This is the day that the taxpayers have made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it."

He thanked Rick Fortner, music director at All Souls Unitarian Church, for providing the spark years ago that resulted in the celebration, and for directing the community choir.

Near the end of the celebration, 11 faith leaders representing the major religions of the world offered prayers of blessing for the new facility.

Sitting side-by-side on the podium were spiritual leaders who were Methodist, Charismatic, Roman Catholic, Mormon, Greek Orthodox, Jewish, Hindu, Muslim, Unitarian, Buddhist and African Methodist Episcopal.

One prayed to Allah in Arabic, and another prayed in Sanskrit. Bishop Edward J. Slattery, of the Catholic Diocese of Tulsa, prayed in Spanish.

English translations of the foreign language prayers were displayed on the scoreboard as the leaders prayed.

A common theme running through the prayers was that the arena would be a blessing to the Tulsa community.

Erling said the participation of such diverse faith leaders at one event "has probably never been done in our city to this degree."

Mayor Kathy Taylor and BOK Center General Manager John Bolton spoke briefly.

As the crowd streamed out of the arena, Jeramy Auld said of the celebration, "I thought it was great."

"We're taxpayers," his wife Libby Auld said. "We thought it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be here."

  • Sam,

I would like to know how the BOK employee that you spoke to "Gladys" has tickets to your Christmas Concert when tickets don't even go on sale until November???? She said she already had front row seats and I just want to know how she acquired them before they even go on sale??? I will be in Hawaii at that time but I am going to try to come back to Tulsa just to see you PERFORM in person......

  • Marsha, tickets ARE on sale. Go to the main page of Sam's YT channel and under "events" find it listed, and click "buy tickets".

I put the link in the text to the right as well.

    Enjoy

  • You have a very nice voice Sam!

  • Sam,

After the concert when you were signing CD's I didn't get a chance to tell you that I had already pre-ordered your CD but bought another one. You signed it for my granddaughter "Madisyn" and she played your Change son over and over. She absolutely loved it and loved the concert of you as well. I will get the video of the concert posted this weekend (hopefully). My husband took it and he's just an amateur but he did get a lot of footage of you and it is GREAT!

    love ya,

    marsha

  • Hey Sam,

Thanks for the info. Michael also told me and where the link was for it as well even though I already had it but do appreciate it. I'm so upset I didn't know earlier though because now I can only get on Row D and I want front row. I will probably have to fly back from Hawaii just to see you because my husband is starting working there on Monday (8th) and I will be going out there in October. If I could get front row it would be even better...
