Dunrobin is an 0-4-4T built by Sharp Stewart in 1895 for the 4 th Duke of Sutherland. It and a four wheel carriage are being returned to Britain from the Fort Steele museum in British Columbia to the Beamish Museum in the North of England. They arrived in Halifax Nova Scotia on 1 May 2011 under a greem tarpaulin on CN train 120, on car 34 of a 157 car train - probably the longest Dunrobin has ever travelled on! There were three locomotives up front - 8881, 2255 and 2588 and after the 88th car 2279 which was remotely controlled from the lead locomotive (DPU - distributed power unit).

The HD video shows the train slowing as it passes Bedford before stopping at the Rockingham yards in Halifax Nova Scotia.

  • That shows the difference between British and Canadian loading gauges. Both loco and coach on the same, standard flat car - not even a special low-deck car! A nice record of a little bit of history. Thanks.
