Apollo 11 was the first manned mission to land on the Moon. The first steps by humans on another planetary body were taken by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on July 20, 1969. The astronauts also returned to Earth the first samples from another planetary body. Apollo 11 achieved its primary mission - to perform a manned lunar landing and return the mission safely to Earth - and paved the way for the Apollo lunar landing missions to follow. This is part 3 of a 28 minute film from NASA's archive.

@venomdude321 It was my friend. We lived in the community. Our Fathers were at work, launching the mighty Saturn Five that would rock our house and send that gleaming white skyscraper slowly climbing above our homes towards the ocean, and always up, in gradually increasing speed. Most of us knew the astronauts. A bunch of wives would come to our house to watch the launch, we had the best view, and later the footsteps. Anything was possible back then, but Socialism killed the dream
