Elijah....they better bring him back! He lives by a brutal, but honest code. He's not sadistic the way Klause, Rebecca, and even Stephan and Damon can be. He could have started killing Elena's loved ones until she agreed to comply, kidnapped her, whatever. Instead he is offering to protect her loved ones in exchange for her help. He brought the elixor to protect her even though he didn't have to. He is capable of respect and compassion. I think he and Elena could be friends.
