He may only be home on leave, but when Marine Cpl. José Ray Mondragon arrived for the Thanksgiving holiday Tuesday evening (Nov. 20), he was greeted with open arms by a large gathering of family and friends at Taos Pueblo.

Mondragon, 21, who serves with the 1st Tank Battalion B Company in Iraq, was met at the Horseshoe south of Taos by well-wishers who then escorted him to Taos Pueblo for a reception at the village home of his grandmother.

  • Thank you for your service. I can't say I've ever seen or met a Native American who is a veteran or is currently serving. I am grateful to all servicemen and woman regardless of background though. We are Americans and that's what matters!

A big show of respect to the older gentlemen of the Bataan march. Brutal and Hardcore are the only words I can think of that come to mind about that.

Thank you again for your service!

  • I love the Native American culture and I really enjoyed the welcome home for one of their own.

God bless you José Ray Mondragon as you carry on the tradition of your ancestors.

    You truly are a warrior.

    Semper Fi!!!!

  • Mondragon? shit, badass name.

  • THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!!

  • @courtney359 NO "the sad thing" is that people like you exist. Look I'm not asking you to change your ignorant views but rather keep them to yourself, your words are nothing worth sharing during a time of celebration and relief. Ray has come from a long line of service men, and I can not allow you to tarnish this cherished moment.

Ray, it's a honor to have you as a Cousin, Marine, and fellow human being. Thankyou for all you have done and been through, it's inspiring and very honorable.

  • Cool that tony reyna dude fought in my country during ww2 !

  • @courtney359 or to serve his country when it called out. don't disrespect other cultures, such as africans are happier than western people because they don't have the stuff we take for granted. now this marine is a serving soldier and your mind must be pretty messed up if you have the mind to disrespect him, his family or his culture.

  • Present day warrior
