A review of the AquaClear 50 power filter (A-610) part 2. Shows the filter working on the back of a 20 gallon high aquarium.
I added the pre-filter sponge to help keep debris from clogging up the foam insert and to help keep ghost shrimp from getting caught in the intake. I also had a guppy and a small albino cory get stuck as well. These two fish were most likely not in the best of health to begin with
Also keep in mind you're comparing the Marineland 100 to an Aquaclear 50. The 50 has 2x the flow rate of 100 (est 200gph vs 100gph). The blue filter floss is designed to polish fine particulate matter and will clog if the tank is overstocked. The foam block in the Aquaclear is more of a prefilter and will not remove fine particulate matter (allowing the carbon in the second stage to become clogged). I don't run undergravel filters, but what I do find is that the Aquaclears will leave a goo

Just remember on the "bio wheel" filters that with the use of media bags additional media can be place behind the foam screen such as bioballs. This makes the bio wheel largely irrelevant, however I run both Marineland (bio wheel) and Aquaclears with great success. Aquaclears are much quieter but allow more water to flow by media making them less efficient. Don't throw that bio wheel away! Just remember that it will function just like the Aquaclears with media bags. Also note that the bl
