excellent analysis Dr. Biddle. Glad to see great minds like you had Gen. Petraeus' ear.

One crucial thing Biddle forgot to mention is the role and involvement of foreign powers in this 'communal conflicts' which makes any chances of stabilizng Iraq completely illusory.Iran supports by all means shi'as. It's interested in exploiting the political upheaval on their(= its) behalf. The sunni countries around, includng Syria, will do everything to stop the shi'as(=Iran's)ascendancy in Iraq, while the Turks pose a major genocidal threat to the Kurds than the sunnis and shi'as combined.

Thats a really good point, I havn't watched the video yet, I was trolling the comments to get an impression of the videos merit, but good point. I lived in Yemen for over a year and speak arabic pretty well, actual distrust is a favorable constant, unfounded trust is considered laughably absurd and exploitable.

If your strategy is to be intelligent in matters of civil war and the importance of history to our lives, there is no better Scholar of The United States than Mr Biddle.

I am not sure what you mean. Could you please back up this statement a bit more? It is rather too broad a generalization the one you are making.
