The Future of Christianity -- Overview

This excerpt overview is part of a lecture former Episcopal Bishop John Shelby Spong gave at Unity in November 2008. In speaking to participants at Unity Institute's first Lyceum, Spong said Unity's unique gift to the evolution fo Christianity -- and the gift that changed his own live -- is a redefinition of God and humanity's relationship with God.

Interesting. Not Biblical or Christian at all but interesting. Thankfully scripture and Chrsitianity (generally speaking) have rejected this kind of teaching. Very Gnostic. Every few years there is a new gnostic type heretic that comes out . It is also obvious that he has not read the church fathers or those at Nicea and Chalcedon (etc.) that wrote about Jesus being Divine and human.

Religion, when left to the ignorant, the angry, the misinformed, the hateful, then becomes an expression of those attributes rather than a picture of the true nature of God. We can reclaim our faith. We can offer the antidote for fundamentalism.

May the day come quickly that those who call themselves "Christian" will embrace these ideas. I have for some time and have found a wonderful, life-affirming, inclusive, but most of all loving faith.
