Young men in every country tend to have a destructive side, bad thing about USA is there is no structure in which to guide that raw testosterone energy, as there is no manditory service ( even non-combat support roles) for the guys, so they're just creating their own structure. People need shared experiences with others of like mind to feel part of something greater than themselves, to fit in, and be proud of.
