Giovanni's Dream: Translation
In a hallucination brought on by the night time fragrance of Dr. Rappaccini's evil and miraculous garden, Giovanni begins being poisoned by his love for Beatriz (the Doctor's Daughter), and the flowers in the garden below his apartment. The flowers come to life to warn Giovanni. In his nightmare he sees the doctor tending his garden, and the sound of Beatriz's voice in his head compel him to sing an aria to her very thought and her very essence.
Giovanni lands in the garden
Flowers: It is already time, it isn't yet time, now is the time...
It is time to end all talk of time, it is not time, it is time
GIovanni: This is where she dreams, the atmosphere of her soul,
the labrynth around her. Beatriz where are?
Flowers: The beginning, the foundation, the hidden deed. The word caught on the tongue, unrecognized, unheard
Giovanni: Such a delicate overwhelming perfume, it comes closer then retreats, appears and disappears my lungs and my veins absorb it in my blood
Flowers and Giovanni: Vibrant garden, like a vigil in the night to enter into you, to enter into me, in the still night
Rappaccini: The gardener never sleeps, he always guards his plants growing them under the sun, cutting them under the moon. What is that sound, who's there? What are you doing here?
Giovanni: Giovan-- (scared), I, she.. She dreamt... Ah (he is poisoned)
Rappaccini: I understand.. the gardener never sleeps...
Flowers: Now! always here...
