Chris Meagher, Chief Engineer for this engine, was kind enough to spend a few minutes with me to discuss the 2.4 Ecotec. For those who don't know, GMs Ecotec 2.4L I-4 has been awarded Wards Auto World magazines 2010 10 Best Engines for North America. The direct injected engine with variable valve timing helps deliver segment-best highway fuel economy in GMs new crossovers, the Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain. The engine also debuts in the all-new Buick LaCrosse and Regal sedans this year.
Oh and about the breathing problem, just a tune and boltons and solving the breathing problem easily gets you over the 220 mark. When all the boosted 2.0's are sitting cracked in junkyards, these 2.4's will still be kicking. So if you have a 2.4 hold onto it. 10 years from now you might not be able to find one.

These engines are great. Yeah they only make 182 HP, but that is only to keep it within a certain price range. You can easily get to 330 HP by either Forced Induction or by Aftermarket Internals. Not only that, if you got the cash, Roush Industries makes their version of this engine that makes 320 HP 270 TQ out of the box. And its a Naturally Aspirated Engine to boot.

I don't think people understand that the motor was designed for daily driving. Every GM i4 vehicle I have been in has impressed me. These motors have a ton of toque down low and don't have to rev high to get moving.

i like how really none of the stuff he showing is really new... or really all that helpful to that engine. 182 Hp? they need to do a better engine tune on it to get it to work better. make it breath.

@Surannhealz
GM's 2.4l engine never did breathe right from the original 2.4l twin cam found in the cavaliers, sunfires ect. ive owned a cavy with a 2.4l for a while and i noticed how bad the intake is on the car. very bad design on the intake, throttle body, manifold. almost makes me wonder if they did it on purpose to keep the power down....

@rexoverbey
torque comes from 11.2:1 compresion. And Honda b18 engines are 600cc smaller.

Alot more effecient than Honda motors. Honda's have to spin upto 9k RPM to make 190 and still have half the torque.
