There are associate degrees in welding technology (2 year). I just noticed you live in the UK, so I'm not sure where the courses would be (I live in Northeast Ohio, USA). Search Yahoo, I'm sure there is a list of them for the UK somewhere.

no gas lens is a part of the tig torch.

Ok, I think I know what you are talking about. Is that an optional piece? The last place I TIG welded (in fact my last place of employment :-( ), there wasn't any mesh piece, but I think that there was in another place I worked. I'm mostly a MIG welder, but I spent my "down time" at my last job practicing my TIG.

you have a gas lens inside the cup, its just a piece with a couple layers of mesh screen that takes the irregularities out of the gas flow so you can get more tungsten stickout without getting porosity

gas is still set at 20-30 cfm but you are using a gas lens
