In the Blog in question, the author mentions a math website (I don't remember the name right off the top) that they are involved with. I went to it to check it out and you have to pay to take lessons. I bet this has more to do with their complaints about Khan Academy than Sal's "bad teaching".

After watching this video, I was very happy that Sal was able to discredit the blog post. Then I actually read the post and was disgusted by the amount of misinformation in it. One thing in particular was calling Sal's videos "... step by step instructions on how to solve math problems." I think the professors and TA's at my university offer more step-by-step instruction than the intuition based way of thinking that is the cornerstone of the Khan Academy. You tell 'em Sal!

No, you're wrong and it's just a matter of convention. In SI unit analysis and mathematics like units MUST cancel, or else it just isn't completed. If the units are different though, like meters x and meters y, then it would not be dimensionless.

Similarly, you can't say the the slope of a hill is 5 meter seconds per meter second: sure, the seconds cancel, but it's still wrong because that isn't a proper unit.

I would be tempted to use memory as the dependent variable in this case since the price depends on how much memory you ask for. What am I missing?

Ugh, please don't let these educational experts change you. These 'experts' and their politics are ruining schools in the UK. They're just feeling threatened by you and trying to launch their own operations. Keep it free and loose just like you always have :) You *are* a good teacher.
