Theory of Chaos was a dance theater piece directed and choreographed by Warren Leming. It is based on Leming's interviews with Lisa Fittko, a Holocaust survivor and the woman who brought the German critic Walter Benjamin from France into Spain where he committed suicide. Performed at the 1996 Rhino Festival, the piece featured footage from Leni Riefenstahl's Triumph of the Will, and featured actor/dancers Allison Birkmeyer, John Burdick (as Benjamin),Denise Marunowski and Judith Reva. Music was by Michael Zerang, Leming, and David Maddox. Sets and lighting by Leming. The program notes contained an interview by Leming and Martin Rathgeber with Lisa Fittko, detailing her experiences with Benjamin.
The piece was reviewed in Ballet Revue, by Joseph Houseal who noted "the dancers performances were a revelation."
