Honda's 2006+ Honda Civic Si (coupe and sedan models) equipped with the 6-speed manual transmission, as well as the Acura RSX Type-S, S2000, and Accord V6 6MT models have been suffering from issues related to their transmission, particularly second and third gear. Some vehicles report that third gear pops out back into neutral after being engaged, getting caught on a "notch" between engagement and neutral, or actually grinding into second or third.

Many people have attempted to get Honda to acknowledge this problem, but Honda has proven to be nothing but obstinate. It is time that something is done about this problem, so please spread this news story to your local dealers, Honda Reps, and other car owners. Please rate up, comment, and favorite: the more people see this, the more successful we'll be.

For more information on this problem, join 8thCivic.com and do a search regarding this topic.

We don't want anything extra from Honda: just the car that they promised with the quality we've come to expect from a Honda.

If you are suffering from this problem, call Honda and let them know how you feel (just remember you'll get farther if you're polite). Just be ready to be told that they don't know anything about it.

  • so.....is the 3rd gear fix for 09??? and...is there actually a fix to this problem?

  • According to Honda? Yes. According to most owners? Yes.

From what I've read, there are still a select number of owners, mostly from cooler climates, who have been having issues with second and third gears.

I personally had my "fix" performed right after it came out, and I still have it. The dealerships won't fix it again unless they can replicate it again, and we all know that goes.

  • lets just get this straight

    this aired in early february

after dealing with the dealership for months, honda released a TSB in april,in my opinion, they only released it because they were exposed

How come the RSX owners havent been helped with their gear problems? Because no one has gone to the media with this

  • The RSX Type-S was discontinued in 2006. Unfortunately for these owners, I think they're S.O.L. for a fix because as far as Honda and Acura are concerned, it's a dead model.

I'd be very surprised to see a fix ever arrive for the Acura models. And that's a damn shame.

  • Just letting it be known that I will NOT tolerate racist, bigoted drivel on this comment section.

Take your idiocy somewhere else, it is not wanted here. I'm glad you think your Chevy/Mercedes/whatever is better, but you're not being useful. Go take your "superior" car trash talk to a respective forum.

As for racists, keep your comments to yourselves. I will delete anything that is not constructive or polite. Grow up.

  • u picked a tc over the si? why would u want to downgrade to a tc? they cant compare with hondas. maybe the base DX civic models!lol

  • 96 - 2000 civic and accord i would say same as the previous except the catalytic on civic are garbage which crack easily...and here's the moment of truth...transmissions are made cheaply starting from the synchro or clutch pack of the gears specially the 3rd ones...

  • @angrut I was in Germany for 5 years and guess which car I saw on the roadside broke down more than any other car? Yes ...it was BMW

  • I have bought over 10 Hondas over the past 20 years...this is the first mechanical problem I have ever had and Honda gives me the runaround just like everyone else. My SI is a 2010 model and the tranny just sucks, in cold weather especially and syncs seem to never work right in 1st through 3rd. I am in Dallas, Texas and Rusty Wallace sold me my Civic SI...my 4th Honda from his dealership!

  • I had this issue in my 07 Civic SI which they tried to fix over a dozen times, i traded it in for a 09 Mustang Roush, and my Ford transmission does not do the pop out.. I would never buy another Honda as long as i live.. I would have bought a toyota but the TC is really bland..

  • @StressFreeWorldWide Please let me know if you found the solution.

  • @angrut Repair costs are astronomical

  • @TheVictors417 LOL and have it in the shop every week? No thank you!

  • how was it fixed. did they give the car new synchros? Or was is something simple like a spring, or cable

  • you know what you're right but you know what at least i'm not like you that has to tell other people to learn how to drive when the fact is that the problem is the car and not the person who is driving it..as you can see i'm 1 of those people that is having an issue with the transmission on my civic si 07..so please don't say that we're a dumb ass because if you're in their position you will probably feel the same way as we do..

  • @guill102 That's great. Try learning grammar now.

  • @WTFGUY956 hey you moron i drive 1 of this car and i definitely how to drive probably better than you..i still having problem with the 3rd gear once in a while..
