I try to walk across a creek on rocks with my heavy backpack. This is a September 2011 update about my rigid emergency backpack and efforts to test and improve it.

  • Dem , one thing I would definitely do is get a good solid walking stick . Makes creek crossings easier , instant weapon for unexpected wildlife , adds balance and grip when going up and down banks and hills . Other posters are right , use information from military guys about hiking and organizing your backpack . I don't think you can ever get too much knowledge about surviving outdoors . Simple things will save your life . Also a book on plant identification ( food ) .

  • @DAVPK1 Good idea. I'll look into it.

  • I would throw some stuff out...

  • @maxl36 I already did.

  • Store your water bladder in the freezer when not in use to prevent bacterial growth.

  • I have a maxpedition falcon 2 as my emergency bad . I have in it 2 ponchos , 4 chem lights , 3 flashlights plus one on me , some food , water and alot of medical supplies . At home I've got alot of everything but emergency water. That is my big problem.

  • i hade that razor blade and didnt know it had the knife lol

  • I will never understand the fascination with bugging out. Where ya going? Live in a suitable location and hunker down, prepare and fortify. That will be the best option. If you HAVE to go, you are pretty much screwed regardless of how well you plan it out in advance. You can only carry so much, not nearly what you could have at home. You will be a walking target otherwise. Enjoy the apocolypse.

  • @DAVPK1 you're right! also a good kit and fire one of the most important things to eat and sustain the spirit! in the video a little snub! personal experience and very important a good kit fire (do not need a lot of stuff, but what is it grao must be the best to use it) a good object to be cut (knife, ax ....) and a good rope! soppravivenza and much spirit!

  • Have you looked into "extreme couponing" for stockpiling? Evidentally, you can get many items for free or really cheap when you cross reference, manufacturer and store coupons with sale items. There are a few great video's that I've seen on YT and I thought of you.

  • Good job, Reginald.

  • @AvonCTStyle good tips.

  • Good work on vid,Demcad! Keep it movin', brother. Peace!

  • Good advice = actually walking around with the pack longer distances to be certain that it's going to light enough to carry

Using zip bags to seperate your items is good but to make more space consider taking the bandages etc out of boxes & putting them in2 smaller baggies - do U have access to a vac sealer? Shrink down the clothes since those don't need to b changed out unless used or season change those items which need to be rotated out can remain in zipbags in maybe a protective container
