This is Hank's adoption announcement.


The question I've been getting the most is "Is he really Chinese?" Yes, he is. Hank has Albinism This site http://www.albinism.org/ does a much better job explaining it than I can!

We were in China for 2 weeks. Hank was from the Suzhou Social Welfare Insitute (orphanage) which we were allowed to visit but we spent most of the time in the cities of Nanjing (for the China paperwork) and Guangzhou (for the U.S. paperwork).

I recently had to change the sound track. It was Solsbury Hill by Peter Gabriel but even though I wasn't making any money off this, they still flagged the video. His song, he gets to choose so fine...I'll deal with it. You Tube has pre-approved songs so I switched it to Creed's "With arms wide open" It doesn't synch up quite as well but it's better than taking the whole video down.

did the parents abandon him because he was albino? but if they did, i can see why, since they are only allowed one child in China and they want their ideal child.

We have no way of knowing for sure why he was abandoned. As most children are, Hank was abandoned with no background information.

It could have been because of his Albinism. There also could have been a perfectly legitimate reason his parents were not able to care for him (death, illness, loss of income). Albinism would have been obvious at birth but he wasn't abandoned until he was an older toddler. I lean towards thinking something unfortunate happened and his parents had no choice

He was 5, just a few weeks from his 6th Bday.

While a large number of children adopted from China are girls, there are many boys available as well.

Does he speak english? How do you communicate?

Hank did not know any English when he first came home. We tried to learn some Mandarin, at least the important things (we love you, are you hungry etc). He is a fast learner! Now his English is almost perfect.

You have obviously not educated yourself on Chinese adoption. There are many boys available of all ages with and without medical needs. I have a beautiful boy adopted from China.

I'm also from Suzchou! It's nice to see someone else from there cause a lot of the Chinese I meet are from well known parts of China like Beijing or Shanghai.

@Treemeadow Turns out its not Peter Gabriel, but Warner Music. They're actually well known for being very protective of their property- but when sales dropped due to this very fact, they decided to take down some of the more stringent copyright policies they had in place.

Thank you so much for the announement. I will always hear Solsbury Hill when I watch this video. We adopted two children from Korea (2003, 2005) I was able to go to pick up my daughter in 2005. Hank is always in my heart.

Aww, he is so adorable! Best wishes to your family! I'm getting two adopted brothers, hopefully they come here for good on February 17th. I can't wait for them to get here, the waiting is SO hard.
