I've got around 10 silver coins of various denominations in my bug out bag. Why? To trade for goods and/or services in times when currency has lost most or all of it's value. In past state collapses people have traded whatever silver they had for food. Having some coins in my b.o.b. gives me some bartering leverage if shtf. I keep a few $20 bills in my bag too.

  • why is there always a train giong by your house

  • @Waynside It's funny, I don't even notice them until I make a video and can hear it in the background. Why does that train have to blast it's horn all the time?

  • silver coins are not the best form of money in a no rule of law environment. Cigarettes are. trust me, if you buy a carton and save them then they may be EXTREMELY valuable, addicts will do anything for a cigarette and they will make easy trade especially if you don't smoke. this has already happened man times throughout history so it is proven, unlike silver coins (such an example is POW camps in ww2)

  • @RazdrazChelloveck That's gold right there. I think I'll buy a carton and put it away.

  • were some of the coins you had just canadian quarters?

  • @wildlifelessons They're Canadian quarters that are 1968 and previous.

  • were do u get silver coins?

  • I'd agree with some of the other comments made here.I used to keep silver in my BOB,not any more. After putting my bag to the test in a few off the grid communities here is my list.Cigs,chocolate,coffee,tea,cocoa.Also,packages of condiments.Ketchup, mustard, mayo, sugar, salt, pepper, etc. Also soap, toiletries,tp,etc.I wouldn't sell you anything I have in a BOB situation for silver, but a few packs of smokes,toothbrush/paste/floss/bar of soap, and some chocolate are strong barter items.

  • its madge

  • lol i have a cheap alternative to silver that is just as if not more effective; cigarettes. apart from the obvious reasons, you can trade just a few instead of a whole pack for smaller things instead of a whole 10 dollar silver coin.

    .

  • If someone is going to kill you and you offer them silver wouldnt they just kill you and take the silver? but it would be good if someone wanted to peacefully trade with you

  • I think for bartering all you will need is tobacco, alcohol and coffee - anything people with addictions can't live without ........ chocolate?

  • @RazdrazChelloveck Really good point, they are a great tool for negotiating and batering goods/services

  • Excellent observation born-out by the reality in prisons, wartime and long-term unemployment; tobacco (second to chocolate/coffee/tea) is the street coinage of preference. I do see the logic behind noble-metal coins, but they are of such an abstractly high value in simple barter situations that they would attract unwanted and potentially lethal attention. Also, I would recommend loose tobacco, in pouches, rather than cigarettes since the latter can be crumpled and made worthless in a BOB.
