I've since found out that Carol was the older sister of the 4 siblings, and, according to the website "angelfire" -- "Big sis Carol got her younger siblings their first recording deal by way of a friend who just happened to be in the Stylistics."

Thanks for posting -- just one correction...there is no Carol in this group. Although they were 5 sisters, only 4 sang in "Sister Sledge" -- Kim, Debbie, Joni, Kathy. I never heard of Carol.
