The FLDS have a satelite colony in Canada, in British Columbia, in the town of Creston. A city of 5,000 people, the FLDS have deep roots here from the 1940's and account for more than 1,000 members. Owning businesses here and supporting the towns economy, local officials ignored rumors of abuse and turned a blind eye. I hope that eventually that the women and men in this sect/cult and others like it will live more like Independant Fundementalists and try to fit in more with mainstream society. I think it would make them a lot more happy & I think it would help there not be such a stigma related to polygamy if they lived more like everyday people. he is merely pointing out an example of how they (not him) the parents think they're above the law. as you listen for another minute or two, you hear that he's against that, as he says, "if you leave it up to the parents to define the law, the parents in some cases are going to violate the law. you have to have the state / goverment there to protect the intersests of minors.
