Americans this year are marking the 20th anniversary of the Americans with Disability Act -- also called the ADA -- a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination based on mental or physical disabilities. One event in the celebration was a recent film Festival which highlighted a documentary film called "Unbeaten," a story about the world's longest and toughest wheelchair race. VOA's June Soh has more on this inspiring story of courage and determination in the face of extreme adversity. Amy Katz narrates.
If you are an extreme athlete you're cool. If you are an extreme athlete who use a wheelchair, you are a hero? A guy at my gym asked me if I was training for the Special Olympics. Will it ever happen that able bodied people will realize the people with disabilities are exactly the same but for having a disability. A single mother raising four kids is a hero. Using a wheelchair and hill climbing or sailing in 25kts or grocery shopping makes me a guy who does those things and uses a wheelchair.
