Sam Harris is an author and commentator on philosophy and religion. He is the author of the bestsellers "The End of Faith", which won the 2005 PEN Award for Nonfiction, and "Letter to A Christian Nation". Harris' writing has been published in over ten languages and has garnered attention from numerous media outlets and journals. Harris also makes regular appearances on television and radio to talk about the danger that religion now poses to modern societies. Harris was educated at Stanford University and is currently completing a doctorate in neuroscience.

This is a digital age, one in which a wealth of accessible information empowers you, but where is the information coming from? How accurate and unprocessed is it? How empowered do you feel debating a television screen or a newspaper? The task is to move the discussion away from talking heads and talking points, and give it back to you. That is Big Think's mission.

  • 17 demons? blasphemy!. there are only 16 demons. believe and repent, or pieowle will eat your testicles for all eternity.

  • Actually that religion wouldn't spread very well. Because the moment these kids study science they'd realize the 70 demon story is bullshit. They wouldn't spread it to THEIR kids, and the religion would be dead.

Fact is, rational thinking IS opposed to religion. Which is magic thinking.

  • Thank you for posting this, FFreeThinker.

  • i enjoyed this vid

  • you have some great stuff here

  • Sam, you make a lot of sense. We all have brains and that should tell us whats right and wrong. Keep up the good work.

  • Sam we love you. You are so smart and so sexy.

  • 2:03. Boom.

  • @TheSkunkCat 70 demons? Is that what you heard?

  • Some surprisingly good points, considering he's an atheist. Also looks like Ben Stiller.

  • There's something about scientific atheists and agnostics that have a tremendous amount of grounding, poise and confidence compared to the 'wild eyed' religious fanatics out there that hide behind a fake plastered smile. It's because guys like Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens and many others know that they are not living the lie that is religion, they are truly enlightened and intellectually emancipated human beings. Keep up the good work Sam.
