  • @mallorcalee point taken. I was just viewing my opinion. The TR808 is an excellent machine. The funny thing is this. I am a synth purist by that I mean I make all my music from the synth itself I use no drum machines or samples.

Kind of like early Vince clarke. Now I have a demo coming towards the end of February called Starship Enterprise. Please check it out and tell me what you think of my interpretation of the TR808. It might surprise you especially since its coming out of a DX7 MK2.

  • @fender1000100 Send me the link when ready and Ill check it out dude. I'm curious to hear how it sounds.

  • @ianmagyar, Its going to be uploaded by next weekend at the latest. I agrree with what you say about the snare. But the BASS DRUM. Ive got the bounce and punch very close to the original The hi-hats too. Because this is where a DX7 really excels in crisp metalic sounds. When I first put the 808 like kit together and made a track. A friend of mine who heard it said what sampler or software did you use for the drums. When I said its ALL DX7 he said I cant believe it.

  • @fender1000100 overrated? no not really. Overpriced? YES. :) and yes the dx7 fm engine is amazing for percussion ;) i ususally opt out of 808 congas cause i love the character that DX7 Conga sounds can pack, but when it comes to booming bass drums, metallic and crisp hi hats, and snappy snares you can't beat the 808's unique analog phatness and character. i eagerly await your demo, i've subbed to check it out.

  • The snare and claves too are very close okay will let you know when its uploaded.

  • @mallorcalee will do. The DX7s natural percussive nature lends itself to producing better percussion sounds than anyother synth I have ever heard. I was tinkering around with it a few years ago when I got a sound that reminded me of a very famous cowbell. Can you guess which one lol?? From there I built up more sounds that sound close to the TR808. Could you believe a DX7 could have more bottom end than an 808. Beleive it, Rimshot and closed hi-hat is close too.

  • @fender1000100 Oberheim rock dude, My OB8 served me well and I still use my Matrix- 1000 but you cant knock the TR-808 for bottom end and iconic analogue drum percussion.

  • Very overatted drum machine. Even my DX7S will make better synth percussion than this. And its not even a dedicated drum machine. And an OBERHEIM DMX will leave it for dead for punch and charactor.
