I know a guy who learned German in highschool, moved there, and joined the army. After 20 years he came back, and now can't speak english without a german accent.

Is there a functional method for vocabulary/morphology immersion that doesn't include much active interference with dictionaries and grammar books.I find it depressive that the study of vocabulary makes time pass quickly,without any display of progress.This is understandable in the irst phase,but this lack of future motivation can only maintain my study program for a few days.Anybody?

my high school (american, private) only offered Spanish and German. I didn't like Spanish after taking it in middle school, so I was really happy to take German, except the teacher ended up completely ruining it for me and I struggled a bit. In college I switched to Chinese, and for some reason, I picked up the lessons pretty quick! (until the classes ended and I forgot a lot...)
