GP38s 3804 and 3806 bring one of the Madison east side locals back toward the yard, splitting the giant frames that support the numerous pairs of signal lights protecting the crossing of the six-lane Stoughton Road (US Highway 51).

Nice catch at dusk!!! I have not seen gates like that in a long time. But why does the one standing gate say 'exempt' on it?

The "EXEMPT" signs mean that buses and hazmat trucks don't have to stop and look for trains like they normally would be required to, either because the rail line is out of service (obviously not the case here) or because the stopping vehicles would be a significant obstruction to the flow of traffic, and more likely to cause an accident than the presence of a train.

i just loove this crossing! it is a cantilever. i heard that this crossing cantilever is getting new led lights with clear lenses. and a safetran electronic bell.
