@SheSister i think the reason why they didnt is because he's all about his identity. I think they tried to stress that about him, and his scar serves as a reason to how he ended up savign the world w/ aang. Getting rid of the scar would take away his identity and his destiny to help the avatar since his banishment. thats my take on this. :)
