  • Very nice to listen to, which organ am I looking at 1:36?

  • At 1:36, it is the organ of the St-Bertrand-de-Comminges Cathedral (in the Haute Garonne area in France).

  • Many thanks. The sound is indeed quite marvelous on this LP that contains the four great toccatas of J.S. Bach. And E. Power Biggs was an outstanding organist.

  • @1001100x02 Me, too. Exactly. So many of the "young" organists play Bach too darned fast. Biggs knew how to save his ammunition for the big moments by not turning the music into a horse race. Biggs' Bach has the power.

  • Ancora un bel ricordo di questo grande organista. Grazie per averlo pubblicato

  • Is there a video of the Fugue available? I have the original quad LP and a CD version of this as well, but I can't legally share those with others. :-)

  • If only I could afford the electronics necessary to accurate reproduction :)

  • @spepper I grew up with this album except we had it on reel to reel. I played it to death!!!! I still love this album. But you are correct. It is hard to find.

  • An interesting idea but doesn't quite work as an integral recording,,sounds like technicians employed twine an a beancan frankly,,,

  • @1001100x02 This Album was released in SACD surround, but good luck trying to find it! (At least at a reasonable price)

  • This was my first organ album and still my absolute favorite. If only he were alive today to re-record it in Dolby Digital! I wish someone would do it, in fact, record all of Bach's organ music on these organs. There's no sound quite like it!

The Toccata in F, when played here gives one sense of a musical rendition of the Grand Canyon!

  • If only Biggs could be alive today to see the great organs produced by Taylor and Boody, Fisk, Von Beckerath, and Fritts. These authentically baroque, historically accurate instruments are produced today in no small part due to Bigg's promotion of building such organs back in his time. The organs built today match the organs of Bach's time even better than the organs Bigg's promoted in his own time, he would be proud!
