Letter to My Former Christian Self

Myself speaking to the old "Me" from around 1999-2001.

Transcript:

I remember you. Your hopes, motivations, and what you think makes you tick. I'm not that far off from you in years, but in what you know right now, I'm very far.

It took awhile to get here; all that you wanted to understand, I've pretty much accomplished, believe it or not. All those doubts and hunches you had over the years, you were right. Go with your gut, and don't blink at using your reason.

I understand how difficult it is to feel at odds with everyone around you, emotionally and intellectually, but they just may be struggling with the same things. Try to open up; you may find the confidante I never had.

Be kind to your family. Meaning can be found in almost anything; it's their personal experience which has nothing to do with you. Other people don't always feel like analyzing everything. Accept that friends will come in and out of your life for many reasons, and there doesn't have to be any cosmic import in that.

Think about what makes you special. What is it that you care about most, and what is it that other people see in you that they like? Don't throw that stuff away.




I know you care about truth. But it's hard to pin down. We are in constant flux. Accept and adapt without getting too upset. You will have to compromise and remake your plans, but the journey will be worth it. You are finding out things about your beliefs and your religion that you never imagined before. I know how tough it is. But don't give up on seeking and living.

And don't abuse others at their particular place in their journey. It will bring you nothing but ridicule. Metaphor is a wonderful tool, learn to use it; it will cover a multitude of errors.

What you call your soul is a spark; the same spark that everyone else has. It draws on and feeds your biological body with a particular story mixing and matching the stories of others. Don't neglect this Self. It is as real as you want it to be.

All I know is the Jesus Christ is real and he has made some promises that I choose to hold on to. Many have let go of the promises, hence, the falling away like the bible predicted would happen.

ONly those who "endure" to the end will be saved from the Second Death, which will come upon all those who are not spared from it. The first death, we all go through. The second death happens at the White Throne Judgemnt, and I wouldn't want to be a part of that.
