The Nation should never have heard of Darryl Kerrigan, The Kerrigan family should still be
living at 3 Highview Crescent, Cooloroo in total obscurity. They were terrible houses on worthless
land. The compulsory acquistion should go through without a hitch..... right? Wrong
This is an awesome comedy of the year in 1997, Down-Under Australia Comedy Momments.

Believe me, this is an accurate depiction of the average Australian.

I haven't seen the whole film but from a British perspective, this clip definitely comes across as parody rather than a serious attempt to depict the average Australian

Oh foo. That never happens.you've clearly never seen the whole film. And if it's good enough for Charles 'Bud' Tingwell to be in(who is no bogan) that's good enough for me.
It's a shame that for some, the Great Australian Cultural Cringe has never gone away. And you wonder why Aussies all sounded English in 1970s New Wave films. To this day you can spot the older NIDA-trained actor a mile away.See Hayden Grubb's film 'The Button' and compare his accent to his father Robert to see what I mean.

If u like it,may I recommend u see the broad range of work from the 'Working Dog' team. There's their big break,TheD Gen,which led to Gen X classic sketch show Late Show, followed by their masterpiece,Frontline, about tabloid current affairs shows,a show so brilliant it is studied in the Aus high School curriculum.(All eps on YT).They made'The Castle' to fund 'The Dish',a more polished film about the satellite dish in Aus during the 1969 moon Landing. It's lovely, but this one's just funnier.

You're so wrong. This is pretty much the funniest Aussie film ever made. It's a love letter to the best & silliest of Australian culture, language & archetypes. So many films of the 1970s 'New Wave' while very beautiful, were, with their soft focus lenses,NIDA accents & auteur visions were actually less about the Australian experience than what we aspired to be.This film REVELS in an Australia those films would prefer didn't exist. That's why it's loved. Our language, our mums & dads & mates are in it.

Also trivia fact:the guy playing Steve(the Trading Post brother) is none other than Anthony Simcoe, who played D'argo in Farscape.

This film is a parody, but an affectionate one.Yes,it does lovingly send up some aspects of bogan culture, but also admits that elements of that culture reside in most Aussies. It's a loving tribute to Aussie language, our culture of the 'fair go',as well as reaffirming what truly matters in life:not class & wealth but family, love & integrity. The Kerrigans don't have sophistication, but they have what matters. They embody the best of ordinary people everywhere,Aussie or otherwise,

I have seen the film, and it's brilliant.
