  • @54SV Sorry I should have clarified...the term "descant" means a high voice that sings in harmony above the other voices of the ensemble. Versions with Anita Carter, with her beautiful upper register, feature this descant. When Carlene was younger, she would also sing Anita's descant. I don't think that the original version with Sara and Mabel had a decant, they probably wrote it especially for Anita, but I am only guessing.

I'm always amazed by the sheer talent of the Carters, whatever version.

  • @baritonebynight - hmmm - all of the Carter Sisters has sung this (and Carlene and I think Rosie too) but the original was, if I'm remembering correct, recorded 1928 by The [Original] Carter Family with Sara as leadsinger and Mabel backing vocals/guitar and A.P. mumbeling a few times in the background - the arrangements are by A.P. - the song itself is a traditional based on an older song

  • @drgemini24 Helen reminds Me of Grandma as well but what a voice I doubt I have better.

  • @drgemini24 Helen reminds Me of Grandma aswell but what a voice I doubt I have better.

  • I miss hearing the descant here....originally sung by Anita and I believe Carlene sang it as well.

  • Thanks for poasting. Its nice to hear and see them all together.

I really like Helens voice, she sounds so special.

  • Great Vid!!! Just wish we all could've seen Anita just 1 more time for this one...

  • heh. Helen Carter here reminds me of the Grandma from the Brady Bunch movie.

Anyway. Thanks for posting it! So sad indeed that all of these wonderful women are gone now. They were very talented. I've not really heard Rosie sing much... she's like a brassier version of Carlene.

    Love this song.

    : )

  • So wonderful to see this video and yet a bit sad that they have all gone now. Thanks for people like your self for posting "HISTORY". RIP Helen Carter-Jones, June Carter Cash and June's daughter Rosie Nix.

  • thanks for posting and we get to hear Rosie Nix sing!
