i can't rank the best Thrash metal albums I've heard over these so many years, but some of them should be remembered and considered as the general picture of the type of music called "Thrash metal":
Jeff Waters - Alice in Hell
Slayer- Reign in Blood
Slayer- Hell Await
Megadeth - Peace Sells
Megadeth - Rust in Peace
Overkill - The Years of Decay
Metallica - Ride the Lightening
Kreator - Terrible Certainty

That would be my selection

Sure it has, Metallica always kept some thrash in their music, even in their Load/ReLoad days, but we can't really call Death Magnetic a pure modern thrash, or regular thrash record, simply because it isn't. It's clear that they were trying to return to their thrash roots on that one. Still, it's not a thrash album.
