That's right, BBC has announced through a special video on their website that David Tennant will be leaving Doctor Who after the specials that will air over the next year.

Phil Stamper takes a look at just who might be the next choice for The Doctor.

  • Huge Whovian and Tennant fan here. Ten is *my* Doctor. Loved this...

  • the tenth doctor is the best he always will be i think he was funny, cool, fair

  • @PSPhenom matts my favourite doctor but they all bring different characteristics to the show...matts the sort of cocky one lol

  • we can't have a black Dr. Who any more than we could have a black James Bond or Sherlock Holmes

  • 10 years? Got my timelines mixed up. I meant 15

  • (...cont.) but a back catalogue that goes back, now, over 10 years.

The problem with casting him as the Doctor (as awesome as it would be) is that the British public - particularly the 'non-geek' British public - have a certain view on Pegg that would taint any serious interpretation of the Doctor that he attempted.

But don't imagine he wouldn't be the Doctor. He'd do it. In an instant. He's wanted to since... probably since he remembers

  • Thinking about Simon Pegg: I don't think Simon Pegg's 'status' would put him above being the Doctor - in fact, his geek alignment is well known, and his appearance in Doctor Who was a childhood dream come true. I think if he was offered the role, he would take it, instantly.

The problem is (and I don't know how much this translates overseas) he is INCREDIBLY well known here as a comedic actor. Not just Spaced, Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz... (cont. in next post)

  • David Mitchell.

Good, old fashioned, slightly posh and opinionated Doctor, like it was back in the glory years (Pertwee / T. Baker).

Mount the campaign now, we'll have him in the TARDIS in five years...

  • Some other actors who would make great Doctors are Michael Caine and Gary Oldman.

James Nesbitt probably won't be the next Doctor, but he'd make a GREAT Master! So would David Thewlis, Ian McKellen, Robert Carlyle, Timothy Dalton, Sean Bean, Anthony Hopkins and that guy who played Rorschach in Watchmen. I can't remember his name! :S

  • It's spelled "JEKYLL". It's a 21st century adaption from the novel "The Curious Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" by Robert Louis Stevenson. Watch it - it's awesome! You might wanna do a little research into the story before you watch it though...
