Indoor gnats, which are also known as fungus gnats, are not only annoying. Their larvae feed on plant stems and roots and can cause considerable damage to seedlings and small plants. Luckily, you can get rid of these obnoxious little pests without using harsh chemicals.

  • Whatever "e health expert" (worlds most annoying voice) Im afraid the larvae will just lie doormat im going to try peroxide and any chemicals I can find. My plants havent been watered in over a week and house smells like bloddy vinegar !

  • I just saw gnats hovering over my venus flytrap plants... hmm.... plant food

  • i have some in my guinea pigs cage in my room, i clean her cage every 2 weeks which is quite often for most ppl but i still have a swarm of them! is there anyway i can get rid of them?

  • Id like to jam a blade in her larynx and fix that ditzy west coast drawl of hers

  • @yolijwrites Most likely those critters were FRUIT FLIES and NOT gnats. Fungus gnats are attracted to organic matter in the soil around the base of the plants. Be careful not to overwater as that will attract them as well. :-)

  • @magcassam try adding hydrogen peroxide to plants with dry top soil, (1 part peroxide to 4 parts water) this kills the larvae, yellow fly tape around the plants will kill the adults. If you dont mind adding chemicals, Malathion 50 kills both fly and larvae. if they are outside introduce the Hypoaspis mites a natural predator from these gnats. the cider vinegar method does work, also adding a banana peel into the vinegar ensures they are attracted. Gl, I too hate these gnats

  • drying out the soil does not kill the larvae it makes them dormant, once watered they start feeding again, haven't tried the sand method, also hydrogen peroxide mixed with water fed to plants with top soil dry kills the larvae, the adults are not the problem. i
